Gift Giving Golden Rule & Gift Guide

The holidays are here! Here is a quick guide to some amazing health and wellness gifts sure to fit any budget.

I commonly hear clients complain how they don’t know how to give gifts to family or friends that support a healthful journey. Sometimes this is because they can’t relate to that person, or because they don’t want to buy something that supports an unhealthy habit.

Most of us know what this looks like: buy your alcoholic friend a bottle of rum for Christmas and see the evening light up!

Instead, I would encourage you to follow what I call my gift giving Golden Rule:

Give unto others as they would want and in alignment with you.

So what does this mean? How about that nephew of yours who plays video games all day and while you wish he were outside playing sports or interacting with real humans, buying him a soccer ball would be a complete waste of money. Instead, think of something like a water jug with his favorite superhero on it. This gift would be awesome because he loves anything with that character AND it supports a healthful behavior you can get behind! Viola!

(*Message me for gift ideas for that impossible someone on your list. I’m really gifted at gift giving!)

Now here is a quick guide sure to meet any budget for anyone on your list.

$25 or less: Book.

Recommendation: My Homemade Vegan Pantry by Miyoko Schinner who definitely changed my relationship with food in the kitchen with this very cookbook! As I started to shape up my diet, I realized that I wanted to control the basics in the kitchen such as make my own butter, mustard, and katchup. This book has all of that and so much more! The unribs with the zippy BBQ sauce is what dreams are made of and all recipes are plant-based and cruelty-free.

$50 or less: Essential oils.

Recommendation: Introduction to essential oils kit and/or diffuser from DoTerra. So much research has come out on the benefits of essential oils for mood and overall health and wellness (and even for cancer patients). Aromatherapy is a sure-fire way to reduce stress, and lower blood pressure and heart rate to name a few. There are great kits out there (my favorite is DoTerra due to their quality and commitment to growers around the globe), but everyone from CVS to Costco are selling them these days. When you think of your health, don’t leave out the mental health and clarity portion. Oils help address this.

$100 or less: Delivery meal service.

Recommendation: High performance meal kit from Purple Carrot. This program is for the fitness nut in your life who has everything. Purple Carrot has partnered with Tom Brady to put together a (plant-based!) meal plan for these athletes. This is also a gift that most people are hesitant to try for themselves but really appreciate receiving as a gift. And the great thing about this one is it keeps on giving if they choose to sign up and have regular meals delivered to their door! You’ll definitely be thanked for the convenience of having healthy and portioned meals delivered straight to their door!

There you have it! A Gift Giving Golden Rule (aren’t you proud of me, mom?!) and a few gift ideas sure to help spark some gift ideas at any budget. Remember to buy gifts and support companies who create and act in alignment with your belief system. The money you spend is one of the most important tools you have to make change in this crazy world we live in.
